Johannesburg - A case of attempted robbery was being investigated after robbers tried unsuccessfully to break through a door at a Standard Bank branch in Boksburg on Tuesday, police said.
It is believed the men entered the branch at the K90 shopping centre just after lunchtime and went straight to the door that leads to the bank teller's kiosk, said police spokesperson, Captain Senza Mohale.
"The men tried to break down the door to get to the tellers, but could not get through. After a while, they fled the bank. No money was taken and no one was injured," said Mohale.
There were conflicting reports from witnesses as to how many of the eight men were armed.
"As soon as members of the public saw the men trying to break down the door, they ran out of the bank; it is unknown how many of the men were armed, as witnesses gave conflicting statements," said Mohale.
