Washington - Police in the United States capital evacuated the distinctive Washington Monument obelisk on Friday after receiving a bomb threat from an unknown caller.
"We are just doing a check of the area to make sure there is no danger," said sergeant Scott Fear of the US National Park Police, adding that officers had found nothing suspicious so far.
Fear declined to give details of the call, which came in to local city police at 14:24, he said.
The distinctive needle of the Washington monument sits on the National Mall in central Washington, and honors the first US president George Washington.
