Melbourne - Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd on Monday said allegations that members of the navy ran a sex betting ring were "disturbing" and promised a full investigation.
Australia's Channel Seven reported that sailors on HMAS Success kept a book called "The Ledger" offering cash rewards for seducing female colleagues.
"Can I say I'm sure the chief of navy has all those matters under active investigation and that appropriate action will be taken," Rudd told reporters.
"These alleged behaviours are disturbing, but it's important also to get to the facts of it all and we'll await the investigations by the chief of navy to establish all those facts."
The TV report said female officers and lesbians attracted higher values and premiums were paid for sex in unusual locations such as on top of a pool table.
It said the alleged betting ring was discovered while HMAS Success was visiting Singapore in May.
The navy has said four sailors were ordered back to Australia and an investigation was ongoing, adding that unacceptable behaviour would not be tolerated.
Deputy Prime Minister Julia Gillard also expressed concerns that the scandal could deter women from joining the military.
"We don't want to see anything that precludes women from having a good career in our armed forces if that's what they choose to do with their lives," she said.
