Kuala Lumpur - A court sentenced an Indonesian woman to prison for six months for almost severing her husband's penis after he criticised her sexual skills, police and news reports said on Wednesday.
Umidah Setu, an Indonesian with permanent resident status in Malaysia, pleaded guilty in court on Tuesday in the southern city of Johor Bahru, the New Straits Times reported.
Local police chief Abdul Aziz Ahmad confirmed that a woman was sentenced to six months in prison in the case, but could not elaborate and declined to identify the woman or man.
Umidah, a canteen operator, was arrested on Sunday after her husband, Kamaruddin Abdullah, filed a police report alleging that she tried to cut off his penis with a knife, the New Straits Times said.
Hospital doctors managed to reattach the organ after neighbours who heard his screams rushed him to hospital, reported The Star, which identified the husband as Qumarodin Bajuri, a contract worker also from Indonesia.
Umidah, who is in her late 40s, claimed she and her husband were in bed on Saturday when he commented on her lack of sexual skills compared to his second wife and she felt insulted, the Times said.
Kamaruddin said he regretted reporting his wife, the Times said. The couple have been married for 17 years and have two children.
Muslim men in Malaysia are allowed to take up to four wives. It was not clear if Umidah will appeal the sentence.
