London - Two of six men who became seriously ill and were hospitalised after participating in a clinical drug trial have been released from hospital, officials said on Tuesday.
The pair "responded very well to their treatment and have made an excellent recovery", Northwick Park Hospital said in a statement.
One of the men who participated in the research trial remains in critical condition, while three others are still in hospital but are making "a good recovery", the hospital said.
The six men fell ill with convulsions and organ failure after being given trial doses of TGN1412, a drug being tested for treatment of leukaemia and auto-immune and inflammatory diseases.
It was the first time the drug had been tested on humans.
The trial of the monoclonal antibody developed by TeGenero AG of Würzburg, Germany, was being run Parexel International, based in Waltham, Massachusetts.
