Dublin - The Irish government says senior officials have arrived in the Sudanese capital of Khartoum to seek to negotiate the release of an Irish aid worker and her Ugandan colleague kidnapped in Darfur.
Unidentified gunmen on Friday seized 32-year-old Sharon Commins of Dublin and her 42-year-old colleague, Hilda Kuwuki, from the Darfur base of the Irish aid agency GOAL. No group has claimed responsibility for their abduction.
Ireland's team includes its ambassador to Egypt, Gerry Corr, the director of the Irish Aid agency, Brendan Rogers, and an army expert on Darfur, Lt Col Ollie Barbour.
They plan to meet on Monday with leaders of Sudan, UN and other aid agency officials, and international diplomats with experience in kidnappings.
