Baghdad - At least 30 Iraqis were killed and 25 wounded when a suicide bomber blew himself up on a bus in Baghdad on Thursday, a security source said.
The bus was completely destroyed in the blast and two nearby stalls selling food and drinks were gutted as the explosion sent shrapnel flying into the air.
"There were 30 dead and 25 wounded," the security source said. All those killed were civilians.
Some bodies were charred and the bus completely burnt, police said.
Iraqi rescue workers could be seen dragging bodies out of the wreckage. Blood covered the ground and pieces of shrapnel were littered across the area.
The bomber appeared to have detonated his deadly charge just as the bus was drawing out of the Al-Nahda bus station in the Iraqi capital en route for the southern Shi'ite town of Nassiriyah.
