Hotline to stop child porn
2008-06-03 07:14
Johannesburg - A website aimed at eradicating child porn on the internet was launched at a national indaba on child pornography at Gallagher Estate in Midrand on Monday.
The website, which was launched by the Film and Publication Board (FPB), affords members of the public the opportunity to report anonymously online, any child pornography on the internet.
The website address is www.internethotline.org.za.
Once it is reported, a content analyst working for the FPB will then investigate the website with the porn images, write a report and then send it to the SA Police for further investigation, the shutting down of the website and the prosecution of the guilty party.
Abiot Tjempe, a content analyst, said: "The hotline provides and guarantees a secure and confidential environment to members of the public reporting such sexual abuse images... the primary purpose of the online hotline is to prevent further distribution of child porn or sexual abuse images, when detected in our country or outside South African boundaries."
The hotline will be available 24 hours a day and seven days a week.
