Washington - US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice on Wednesday will unveil a $1bn aid package for Georgia after its conflict with Russia, a senior US official told AFP.
Rice was to announce the US assistance in public remarks at 13:30 (17:30 GMT) and US President George W Bush was to offer more details in a written statement when she is finished, around 14:00 (18:00 GMT), the official said.
The official requested anonymity because the announcement was not yet formal.
Washington has already provided roughly $30m in emergency humanitarian aid to the former Soviet republic since the conflict flared up in early August, US officials say.
