Pietermaritzburg - A KwaZulu-Natal woman has been gang-raped by at least 10 men.
Umzimkulu police spokesperson captain Gerald Mfeka said the gang rape of the 22-year-old woman was "shocking".
He said the victim, who was admitted to Port Shepstone Hospital, was still highly traumatised and unable to provide any information.
However, it was believed that she left her home at about 23:00 on Friday while sleepwalking. Her sister thought she was going to the toilet.
The following morning a taxi driver came to the house to tell the family that he had seen her at a tavern about 10km from her home.
He said she was still dressed in her pyjamas and covered in blood. An hour later, police found the victim in Masihembele, a considerable distance from where she was last seen.
She told the police she had been raped and then collapsed.
A medical examination at Port Shepstone Hospital not only confirmed the woman had been raped and assaulted, but showed that dry grass had been pushed into her vagina, according to Mfeka.
