New Delhi - Commandos rescued a total of 610 people from two Mumbai hotels and a Jewish centre in the city that was seized by armed Islamist militants, India's security chief said on Saturday.
The elite forces brought 300 people out of the five-star Taj Hotel, where the siege ended earlier in the day, India's Internal Security Secretary ML Kumawat told a news conference in New Delhi.
He said 250 others were rescued from Oberoi/Trident hotel and 12 families comprising 60 people were brought out of the Jewish centre.
Kumawat did not specify how many of the 610 had actually been held hostage by the militants, who launched their assault on Wednesday evening.
