Buenos Aires - An Argentinean zookeeper died after being attacked by an anteater, the state news agency reported Telam on Friday.
The 20-year-old woman was attempting to feed the animal on Thursday it attacked her with its up-to-five-centimetre-long front claws.
A previous employee at the zoo, who characterized the 40kg animal as "mean and aggressive", said she had also been attacked and accused the zoo management of knowing the risks.
The South American anteater can grow up to two-metres-long, and uses its powerful from claws not only to burrow into anthills but also to defend against predators such as pumas and jaguars.
