Poll: Brown gains on opposition

London - A new poll indicates Prime Minister Gordon Brown and his Labour Party are closing in on Britain's opposition Conservative Party.
The Ipsos Mori November Political Monitor found 40% of respondents supported the Conservatives and 37% backed Labour.
The three-point gap is not statistically significant, and is the closest Labour has been in the survey since March. The Conservatives led 45% to 30% in October.
Half of new respondents were unhappy with Brown's performance, down from 69% two months ago.
Just 17% though the economy would improve in the next 12 months, versus 24% in October.
The poll questioned 1 002 adults on November 2-4 for an error margin of plus or minus three percentage points.
