Colombo - Sri Lanka's Tamil Tiger rebels on Tuesday freed more than 100 child soldiers in their biggest single release of underage combatants, the United Nations children's agency said.
Unicef said it was in the process of taking custody of the children at the rebel-held town of Vakarai, where the main Tamil Tiger group established control after a breakaway group ended a factional war on Monday.
"We are right now registering the children in Vakarai," said Unicef spokesperson Geoffrey Keele. The number is in excess of 100."
