Baghdad - Fighting in the holy city of Najaf left 77 people dead and 70 others injured since Thursday morning, the Health Ministry reported on Friday afternoon.
The city had been wracked by violence on Thursday, including a militant attack on a police station with mortar rounds and several United States bombing raids on suspected militant sites.
By Friday morning, however, much of the violence had appeared to have died down.
