Quetta - Pakistani troops have seized nearly two tons of morphine and a clandestine ammunition dump in southwest Pakistan near the Afghan border, officials said on Friday.
Paramilitary commander Rizwan Malik said the drugs and ammunition had been hidden underground in the mountainous Chaghai district in Baluchistan province.
They were believed to have been smuggled from Afghanistan, the world's largest opium producer.
"The seizure included 1 830kg of morphine and a large cache of ammunition" Malik told reporters in Quetta, the provincial capital.
He said no-one was arrested.
Pakistan is a major transit point for narcotics smuggled out of Afghanistan to the streets of Europe and other overseas destinations.
