Kabul - A second member of a United States special forces team missing in eastern Afghanistan has been located, reports Afghanistan's private Tolo television station on Monday, citing unnamed sources.
The report said: "US officials in Afghanistan have said that two of their missing soldiers have been found in the eastern mountains of Afghanistan, but there is no information in hand about the fate of the two other members of this team."
The television network CNN reported that late on Sunday one team member was rescued on Saturday in the eastern province of Kunar, but three remained unaccounted for.
However, the US military would not confirm that it had located any members of the team, which had been missing since June 28 when rebels downed a helicopter sent to extract them, killing all 16 on board.
Lieutenant colonel Jerry O'Hara of the US military said:
"We don't comment on ongoing operations."
Lieutenant Cindy Moore of the US said: "We don't have any information at this time."
Provincial governor Assadullah Wafa was not immediately available for comment.
