Safe escape 'not a miracle'
2005-08-04 09:30
My dictionary defines the word "miracle" as "an extraordinary event attributed to some supernatural agency".
To describe the safe escape of all the passengers and crew from the Air France jet at Toronto Airport as a miracle is an insult to the manufacturers of the Airbus and to the crew of the plane.
Much thought goes into the construction of modern aircraft so as to make them as safe as possible, even in the event of an accident as severe as the one that occurred in Toronto.
In addition, crews are trained in ways to evacuate such an aircraft in minimum time.
The fact that all the occupants got out safely is thanks to the skill of the aircraft manufacturers and the dedication of the crew, and not to some supernatural power.
