Metro cop killed on highway

Johannesburg - A Johannesburg Metro policeman was shot and killed by two assailants along the Golden Highway near Soweto on Tuesday night, police said.

Metro spokesperson Wayne Minnaar said the officer had just written a ticket for a minibus taxi for defective lights when he was shot twice, shortly before 20:00.

It was not clear if the killers had alighted from the taxi or were pedestrians.

Minnaar said nothing was taken from the slain officer.
