Condolences to the family of Woolmer.I couldn't believe it when I heard the news. May he rest in peace. But Pakistanis need to learn to accept defeat and stop demanding someone to be killed because they lost a match, which could be the cause for woolmers death. - Dan

May god bless your family at this difficult time. - Fiona

What an enormous gap the passing of Bob Woolmer has left in World Cricket. He is responsible for so many great innovations of the modern game, on and off the field. This certainly leaves a shadow over the World Cup tournament. Much of SA's success is due to the foundation left by Woolmer from his coaching involvement with many of the senior players and his advice up until this weekend. I'm going to miss you Bob. - Brad

My condolences to his family, he will be sadly missed by the SA cricketers and the whole cricket nation in SA. Finally him and Hansie will be together watching the World Cup. May his soul rest in peace. - Shams

What a loss! To lose someone of the stature of Bob Woolmer is just unspeakably sad. To Bob's family - what can be said? You are in our thoughts and prayers. It's unbelievable that this could have happened, and the saddest thing is, if people realised that cricket is just a game, not a life or death situation, this tragedy may have been entirely preventable. - M G

He will always be remembered as a true ambassador to the game of cricket, especially in South Africa. My heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones. - Nick Levendal

As throughout the history of mankind sport has become all too consuming. May we all win and lose with humility in future. God bless you Bob. - Bronwen Phillips

My condolences to his family and friends. He was a great man. I will forever remember him for his contribution to South African cricket. I am an ardent fan of the game and his death is a great loss to the world of cricket. R I P - Grace Barclay

Bob Woolmer took SA Cricket to a new level when it needed a lift. His legacy will always be seen in future success of Proteas. Cricket aside, I do not know much about him. That shows how dedicated he was to the game. Condolences to his loved ones. It is a great loss to world cricket, but surely a greater loss to his family - SACricketSupporter

How prophetic Bob Woolmer's words were at the press conference after the Pakistani loss to Ireland. "It's just a game .." I just hope everyone remembers those words, and our sentiments now, the next time (and there will be a next time) South Africa lose a match. It's important to win, but it is just a game. No one needs to die, rivers don't change their course, the sun still rises and sets. It's just a game. Fare thee well Bob. Strength to the family. - Just a game

Woolmer's death came as a big shock. He did so much for cricket in SA. I feel for his wife and children as they also made a huge sacrifice with him being away from home. Sorry you had no time for retirement. I salute you, Bob. God Bless - Cricket Fan & Wife

It is indeed a sad day for Cricket! Cricket as a whole has lost a great icon! May his soul rest in peace! - Riaz - Jhb

Bob Woolmer was responsible for creating the cricketing heroes we remember today when South Africa was a clueless and young but talented side. He created heroes like Jonty Rhodes and Alan Donald by nurturing them and giving them the guidance and direction they needed. He will be greatly missed. Thank you Bob Woolmer. - Mario

What a sad and needless loss. Bob had such an appreciation of what really matters, a balance extremely rare in most people. He possessed tremendous insight and managed to get the best out of every cricketer that had the pleasure to work with him. Bob turned the game around when professionalism in the true sense of the word was required. His innovations with the SA team and Warwickshire was testiment to that - what a loss when we can ill afford such a luxury. RIP BOB. Condolences to the family.

What saddens me is the pressure that is put on coaches and players in sport today. For those special people like Bob Woolmer who really care deeply about the sportmen he mentored and guided it just seemed to be to much. May this serve as a wake up call to those who engage in inappropriate outburst of rhetoric and fanatasim and vicariously live their own unfulfilled lives through sport. Prayers for the family.

Charles F 3/20/2007 2:52:52 PM
He was truly a great man, he influenced South African Cricket to the point of being one of the best teams in the world. My condolences to your Family, Freinds and all the players who got to know and love you.

Bob Woolmer was a leader in world cricket. He was respected by many and his passion for the sport will always be remembered. What's sad is the fact that Pakistan supporters would say things after the Ireland game that Bob saw and took to heart. He was the one man who would stand behind his players even in their wrong doing. Proven with Hansie and Inzi! Bob you are the cricket legends we will remember....

Murray 3/20/2007 3:01:31 PM

Bob, the many hours we enjoyed cricket, kept my boys out of school to show them the ropes of the great game, your contribution was great.

What a great loss to cricket he will be and to his many fans. To his family in this distressing time my condolences for your great loss.

Gary Kabatznik 3/22/2007 10:57:07 AM
If Bob Woolmer was killed, not only did they kill Bob Woolmer, they also killed cricket and what did it help to kill him, it never changed results of any games for Pakistan & if some idiot lost millions on gambling it's not going to get his money back anyway.

Mpho 3/22/2007 11:07:49 AM
for our team to be where it is today...Bob had a lot of influence...he was a master in his own way...May his soul rest in peace! My sincere condolences to the Woolmer and the criket nation as a whole...

May He Rest In Peace - God always takes the good ones to be with him. Your influence on SA Cricket was great and it is really sad to say but I still believe you had much to give to the game.
