Edwards fastest in practice

Doha, Qatar - Colin Edwards had the fastest time in Thursday's MotoGP practice session for the Qatar Grand Prix.
The American finished in 1 minute, 56.66 seconds on his new Yamaha at the 5.4km Losail Circuit, which will host the first MotoGP race of the season Saturday.
Defending world champion Nicky Hayden of the United States struggled, however, with a best time of 1:58.92. Honda teammate Dani Pedrosa of Spain was faster in 1:57.70.
Ducati rider Casey Stoner of Australia was second fastest at 1:56.74 on the 800cc bikes being used for the first time in MotoGP.
Seven-time world champion Valentino Rossi of Italy was third fastest in 1:56.78. The Italian, who won in Doha last year, had his best time in the 12th lap out of his 22.
Honda rider Carlos Checa of Spain was fourth fastest (1:57.09) while Ducati's Loris Capirossi of Italy was fifth (1:57.27).
Qualifying for Saturday's race is set for Friday.
