Ahmadabad, India - India's captain Sourav Ganguly on Tuesday was banned from playing six one-day internationals because of India's slow overrate against Pakistan in the last two matches, a cricket official said.
"International match referee Chris Broad has told me that the ban has been imposed because of India's persistent slow overrate," Gautam Dasgupta, joint secretary for the Board of Control for Cricket in India, told reporters.
In Ganguly's absence, India's leading batsman Rahul Dravid will captain the Indian team, Dasgupta said.
On Tuesday, India took 236 minutes to bowl 48 overs against Pakistan - exceeding the time limit by 26 minutes, Dasgupta said.
Pakistan won the thrilling match by three wickets.
In the third one-day international last week, Ganguly was penalised with 70% of his match fees by the match referee for the same reason.
India and Pakistan are levelled at 2-2 in the six one-day series.
