Spa-Francorchamps - A delighted Fernando Alonso said he was happy to be back on the pace after qualifying sixth for Renault at the Belgian Grand Prix.
The two-time world champion Spaniard said he felt confident he could translate that grid position into a solid finish as the Renault team seek points in their scrap with Toyota for fourth place in the constructors championship.
They are currently fifth with 31 points behind Toyota on 41.
"We all know that the first two rows will go to Ferrari and McLaren and then it is up to us to try and do our best. So this is good for us especially as the two Toyotas are not in the top 10.
"I will try and keep or improve on my position tomorrow (Sunday) and anything can happen. We need to score points to get much closer to them. And this is our chance."
He added that he was happy to put the memories of his disappointments at the previous race in Valencia behind him. "That was a bad weekend. Now we need a good one," he said.
