Vijay tops Johnnie Walker field

New Delhi - The Johnnie Walker Classic will be held in India for the first time next year with former major winner Vijay Singh headlining, organisers have confirmed.
The $2.5m event, won by South Africa's Anton Haig in Phuket this year, will take place at the DLF Golf and Country Club on an Arnold Palmer-designed course in New Delhi from February 28 to March 2.
Fiji's Singh, a former Masters and PGA champion, will be make his fourth appearance in a tournament that has always attracted a stellar field.
Past winners include Tiger Woods, Nick Faldo, Greg Norman, Fred Couples, Ernie Els, Ian Woosnam, Retief Goosen and Adam Scott.
"I began my professional career in Asia so I am excited to be returning to my old stamping ground for the Johnnie Walker Classic next year," said 44-year-old Singh, who is currently ranked 12th in the world.
First played in Hong Kong in 1990, the Johnnie Walker Classic broke new ground by being the first tournament to be jointly sanctioned by the European, Asian and Australasian tours.
"India is an exciting and growing destination for professional golf and I'm confident the event will create a wonderful buzz for our players and golf fans," said Asian Tour executive chairperson Kyi Hla Han.
