Melbourne - Roland
Schoeman won his second gold medal at the Commonwealth Games
with victory in the men's 50m butterfly final on
Saturday.
Despite swimming the final less than an hour after the
semi-finals of the 100m freestyle, Schoeman had enough in
reserve to win in a time of 23.34 seconds - 0.38 outside his own
world record set at last year's world championships in
Montreal.
Australia's 2003 world champion Matt Welsh finished
strongly to grab second in 23.63 while Australia's former 100m
world record holder Michael Klim was third in 23.74.
Schoeman also won a gold medal as the lead-off swimmer in
the South African 4x100m freestyle relay and is the favourite
for the individual 100m freestyle gold.
