Grand Blanc - Mike Weir clung to
a one-shot lead over defending champion Vijay Singh after first
round play at the rain-hit Buick Open was completed on Friday
Weir, who was among the early starters on Thursday avoiding
most of the torrential rain that brought and early end to play,
returned a bogey free nine-under 63 at the water-logged Warwick
Hills Golf and Country Club.
Singh, the twice defending champion, mixed nine birdies with
a single bogey for an eight-under 64 to sit one back of Weir and
a shot clear of a trio of Americans, Joe Durant, Brett Quigley
and 1995 champion Woody Austin.
Tiger Woods, fresh from his emotional victory at the British
Open, was also among the Thursday finishers, firing five
consecutive birdies to open his round on way to a six-under 66.
Joining the world number one just three back of the leader
are American compatriots Arron Oberholser, Jeff Sluman and Jim
Furyk and Colombia's Camilo Villegas.
