Melbourne - Olympic gold medallist Giaan Rooney said on Thursday that she will retire from swimming to take up a career as a television presenter.
The 23-year-old Rooney was a member of the Australian 400m medley relay team that won gold at the Athens Olympics in 2004. She also won silver medals in the 50 and 100m backstroke events in March at the Melbourne Commonwealth Games.
"I'm happy and I feel at peace with what I've done, I have no regrets if I walk away," Rooney said. "The biggest thing is probably not having to get wet every day."
