Cape Town - Jake White announced on Wednesday that he is to quit as coach of the South African rugby team after leading the Springboks to victory in this month's World Cup.
"The match against the Barbarians at Twickenham (on December 1) will be my last as Springbok coach," White told reporters at a press conference in Cape Town.
White, who has been in charge of the national team since 2004, has been in hot demand with the Australian Rugby Union revealing on Tuesday that White's agent had been in touch about the vacant Wallabies post.
He has also been linked to the England and Wales coaching positions.
Press reports said that White feels slighted at being expected to reapply for his position after steering South Africa to their second World Cup triumph at the Stade de France on October 20.
The South African Rugby Union is understood to be considering four candidates as coach, including former Springbok winger Chester Williams, Pretoria Blue Bulls coach Heyneke Meyer and Pieter de Villiers, who is in charge of the under-21 side.
