Skinstad in shock Sharks return

2006-09-06 12:05

Durban - Bob Skinstad will finally play for the Sharks, more than a decade after completing his schooling in KwaZulu-Natal.

According to keo.co.za, Skinstad, who has taken a self-imposed absence from the game since 2003, will play in next year's Super 14.

Zimbabwe-born Skinstad, who has spent the past three years in England working for both advertising agency Saatchi & Saatchi and Sky TV as a rugby pundit, is expected to return to South Africa with his wife, Debbie, and newly born daughter in the next few months.

The former Springbok captain is confident that a successful Super 14 with the Sharks could see him challenge for a World Cup place.

Skinstad, who made his Test debut against England in 1997, turned 30 on July 3 this year.

Skinstad's most recent on-field appearance was in Corné Krige's testimonial match against a World XV at Newlands.

Skinstad played in the 1999 World Cup, but missed out in 2003 because of a broken arm.

Skinstad captained the Boks on 10 occasions and played a total of 34 Tests in the green and gold jersey, scoring 10 tries in the process.

He'll never make the team.

Nyamzooo 9/6/2006 2:37:04 PM
this is one of the most ridiculous thing i've the whole year. If it was the 1st of April i will understand. No matter how talented Bob is, it is too much for him to expect to play a significant part in the Sharks that benches Keegan Daniels. He should just keep doing what he has been doing for the last 3 years..

Len de Villiers 9/6/2006 2:43:33 PM
Has April fools day come early, or is it still form the previous year?????

Abri Spies 9/6/2006 2:57:02 PM
Yet another has-been trying to get back. Please leave the game to the younger, fitter players and the guys who did not ran away.

Thomas Twigg 9/6/2006 3:18:05 PM
It seems we forgot what Bobby did for the Springboks in the past. Welcome back Bob, we missed you.

Theo 9/6/2006 4:17:46 PM
I am sorry to say but Bob Skinstad should stay where he is, nad that is in England. He is not willing to play in SA in the domestic season, but now that there is a world cup, now suddenly he wants to come back and try make teh sqaud for nthe world cup. If itr so happen it will mean that he is keeping someone out off the sqaud that put his body on teh line domestically while he was earning pounds else where. Sorry Bobby boy go back to where you were, WE DON"T WANT YOU BACK!!!!!

Wasten Dean 9/6/2006 4:33:59 PM
Nothing will give me greater pleasure to see Bob gracing the playing fields of SA again , but surely this must be a prank or something (Ns: does Bob know about this?)

Craige Clarke 9/6/2006 6:38:23 PM
I will have to stop supporting the Sharks if Bob plays for them, the other SA Super 14 teams must feel a sense of relief knowing that he will not be looking for a spot in their squads!
