SA undecided on 2010 pitches

Cape Town - The government has undertaken to assist with the building and refurbishing of sports stadiums for the 2010 FIFA World Cup tournament, but no final decision has yet been made
about numbers to be built or about the host cities, says Sports and Recreation Minister Makhenkesi Stofile.
In a written reply to the Democratic Alliance's Donald Lee at parliament on Tuesday, Stofile said no final decision had been made about the amount that will be budgeted "but this will depend on how many will have to be refurbished".
Thus, he said no tenders had yet been issued for the work. "Tenders will have to be issued timeously to ensure delivery of the stadiums before the FIFA inspection tour in 2008."
He said black economic empowerment would "most certainly be attached to these tenders".
The 2010 cup presented "ideal opportunities" for the
advancement of disadvantaged communities in many spheres.
