Day of high drama in SA soccer

Johannesburg - Going, going, gone!

In a day of high drama on Tuesday, Mamelodi Sundowns coach Angel Cappa quit.

Bloemfontein Celtic coach Paul Dolezar warned his players that unless they beat Ajax Cape Town at home on Sunday he would resign.

Also, Orlando Pirates coach Kosta Papic may walk the plank, despite the club saying his job is safe.

Downs' acting CEO José Ferreira confirmed Cappa had asked to be released from his contract which ends on May 31 and the club had agreed.

Neil Tovey and Cappa's assistant Miguel Gamondi have been appointed joint caretaker coaches.

Ferreira said: "Cappa approached club owner Patrice Motsepe and me. He explained he was having private and domestic problems and could no longer focus on his job.

"He asked to be relieved. We understood, and accepted his resignation."

Dolezar has 'had enough'

But it is known that supporters are unhappy with Cappa. Some threatened the coach after the recent 1-1 draw with Ajax Cape Town.

Dolezar is fed-up with his under-achievers at Celtic: "I have had enough.

"The players are not committed and the results are poor because of that. Some do not care if they lose or win."

He said the other problem was that he could not contact Celtic boss Jimmy Augousti, who was out of the country.

"I leave for Paris on holiday on December 22 and return on January 5 when I return from Paris.

"I will give Jimmy (Augousti) my letter of resignation. I would have told him now, but can't contact him."

Papic and his players have also been warned to "wake up" after losing to Kaizer Chiefs in last weekend's Soweto derby.

Management have told the coach they must win their last remaining two fixtures before the festive season break.

Bucs spokesperson Mickey Modisane said: "We are not firing our coach, but we have told the technical team they must win the two last matches this year and consolidate our position at the top of the league.

"We will not accept another season when we throw away the league championship."

Bucs play Moroka Swallows at Orlando Stadium on Sunday.
