Soccer boss claims 'sabotage'

Johannesburg - PSL chairperson Irvin Khoza called it "sabotage" as not sufficient clubs turned up to the special general meeting of the League at the Sandton Hotel on Saturday to form a quorum.
"Eleven Premier League clubs turned up," said Khoza, "and six from the subsidiary first division. "We needed eight teams from each division to go through with the meeting."
The meeting has now been set down for next Saturday at the same venue.
Premier League teams who did not turn up were Ajax Cape Town, Jomo Cosmos, Moroka Swallows, Mamelodi Sundowns and Thanda Royal Zulu.
Those from the lower division who failed to make an appearance were Bay United, FC Cape Town, Ikapa Sporting, Maritzburg United, Durban Stars, Garankuwa United, Winners Park, University of Pretoria, Witbank Spurs and Western Province United.
Khoza alleged that the stay-away was instigated, with some clubs exhorting others not to attend.
"This was particularly disappointing," said the PSL chairperson, "because the meeting was arranged mainly to discuss the promotion-relegation issue in which the First Division teams are directly concerned."
Also mooted to be on the agenda is the controversial R70m hand-out to be given to League officials for their good work (sic).
The amount was diluted somewhat from more than R200m that was due to be handed out to five officials as a commission for securing deals with SuperSport TV, Absa Bank and other financial organisations following nationwide condemnation of the massive pay-out.
And the present amount of R70m is still generally regarded as beyond the pale.
