SA’s basketball leadership dissolved
The South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (Sascoc) has dissolved Basketball South Africa (BSA) leadership after a recent special meeting. The decision was taken after consultation with all BSA members and affiliates. The purpose of the meeting was to look at the current impasse in the functioning of the BSA and explore practical solutions to aid in the administration of the federation. All provinces and affiliate members were present. Issues were deliberated in a frank and open manner with the president of Sascoc, Moss Mashishi, chairing the meeting. “Having looked into the state of affairs of basketball, all members present regretted the sad state that the sport found itself in. “It was acknowledged by all present that basketball has not had a well-functioning administration for the past two years,” Sascoc said in the media statement. This brought to an end the era of BSA’s leadership under Vusi Mqhobozi as the president. As a matter of urgency a constituted interim committee, composed of all the chairpersons of provinces, was put into place to run affairs of the federation for six months. Those selected to serve in the interim structure are Malesela Maleka, Gezephi Mbatha, Cabby Cabanelas, Dr Malumbethe Ralethe, Dali Dzingwa and Dumisani Tuka. The committee will run the affairs of the federation with the help of selected representatives of Sascoc. The interim committee met last Wednesday to chart the way on redeeming the dysfunctional federation.
