Celtic question decision
Bloemfontein Celtic coach Mich D’Avray says they will appeal the sending off of striker Geofrey Sserunkuma should the TV replay show he was wrongly cautioned. Referee Abdul Ebrahim showed the Ugandan striker a straight red after consultation with a fourth official during the Telkom Knockout semifinal after a tackle on an Orlando Pirates player towards the end of the first half. This was minutes after Celtic defender Cyrille Mubiala was flashed with a yellow for dissent. Celtic were down 1-0 at that time, courtesy of Lucas Thwala, and it became obvious they were going to find it hard to come back minus one man. A normally cool D’Avray was seen expressing his anger at the referee. “After seeing the replay, we will definitely appeal the decision because from what I saw, there was no intent to hurt the Pirates player. I think the wrong player was shown the red card. “That decision by the referee had a direct bearing on the result. As we were one man down and they had taken the lead, we were left chasing shadows,” said the former Australia-based coach. D’Avray also confirmed that they were hoping to sign former Bafana Bafana and Kaizer Chiefs striker Shaun Bartlett by next week. “It’s a matter of tying up a few loose ends.” – Kick Off
