Property marked for swift identified
The police in Thabong embarked on a project called Know your neighbour in Thabong, Zone 3, recently. This was a joint project by the Thabong Partnership Policing Unit, Correctional Services, the Community Policing Forum and voluntary community members. The group painted house numbers, issued property inventory forms to encourage community members to mark their property and distributed pamphlets about house?breaking. According to Capt. Neo Mokhantso of the Thabong Partnership Unit, the purpose of the project is to stop the problem faced by all emergency services when they are trying to find addresses when they are ans?wering a call for help. “Emergency personnel such as the police, correctional services and ambulances are delayed while they search for the house numbers, because most homes have none. This results in slow service delivery. “If the community marks their property and house numbers are visible our job will be easier and the community will receive the service delivery they deserve,” said Mokhantso. Ms Ntswaki Makhetha, one of the beneficiaries, was thankful for this generous ges?ture. “I am so happy. I did not expect this to happen. I thank the police and Correctional Services for their work. It shows that they care for the people,” she said. At the end of the day approximately 125 houses had new visible house numbers. The paint, equipment and food were sponsored by several businesses in Welkom and Thabong.
