The overall winner and first runner-up will each win a one-year contract from Redstar Talent who will represent them for the rest of the year.

This is in addition to the more than R170 000 in prizes and sponsorships that are up for grabs.

Come and sing for us at one of the regional Spontaan 2008 auditions. You might be chosen as one of 12 regional winners to compete for one of the top three positions on 11 and 12 July at the final during the Volksblad Arts Festival.

Lovely prizes can be won. All that you must do, is sing.

Volksblad’s community newspapers in the Free State and Northern Cape are once again hosting this popular singing competition for the seventh year and this year Spontaan is bigger than ever before.

A winner will be chosen for each of the 12 community newspapers.

The 12 regional winners will battle it out at Bloem Plaza and the Volksblad Arts Festival in Bloemfontein in July.

The winner of each regional leg will be announced immediately after the regional finals.

If you are chosen as a regional winner for one of the newspapers, you must then prepare five songs for the final. Each finalist will perform one or two songs, after which the winner will sing three further songs.

Entry is free. No registration before the time is needed. Just arrive at the audition, where you will register. Redstar Talent, the Bloemfontein agency for artists and celebrities that already represent several local and national stars, has just joined as another Spontaan sponsor.

Auditions held here

AUDITIONS will be held at the following places on these dates:

Welkom: Friday, 9 May, at 14:00 at the Vista and Forum offices.

Kroonstad on Saturday, 10 May, at 08:30 at the Kroonnuus office.

Bethlehem: Thursday, 8 May, at 14:00 at Coachman’s Saloon at the Frontier Inn & Casino.

Kimberley – Friday, 16 May, at 16:30 at the Diamond Pavilion’s boardroom.

Kuruman: Thursday, 15 May, at the Booysen Hall at the Seodin Primary School.

Bloemfontein: Thursday, 22 May, at 17:00 for Bloemnuus and Saturday, 24 May, at 09:00 for Express and Ons Stad at Volksblad, 79 Nelson Mandela Avenue.

Prizes up for grabs

PRIZES in excess of R170 000 from the following sponsors can be won in Spontaan 2008.

ZPR Communication Consultants: R73 800. Publicity and marketing with ZPR Communication Consultants worth R6 000 for each finalist, totalling R72 000. This includes an hour consultation with the ZPR Team, a professional CV, design of CD cover, an entertainer biography and ten press releases plus full participation in a work?shop for the finalists before the final, valued at R1 800.

Bloem Plaza: R33 600. A Nintendo Wii for each of the finalists and a gift for each finalist from Bloem Plaza.

Electronic Sound Research (ESR): R32 000. 12 microphones (one for each finalist) valued at a total of R21 500 and a R10 500 sound system for the overall winner.

Damelin: R20 000. Bursary to the value of R15 000 and recordings for the top three to the value of R5 000: Winner gets three songs, second place gets two songs and third place gets one song.

Revlon: R12 000. A gift hamper valued at R1 000 for each of the 12 finalists.

Cadac (www.cadac.co.za): R7 035. 3 Cadac 57 cm Neoway Charcoal BBQs (kettle braais) for the three top prize winners. 12 Cadac Deluxe arm chairs and 12 Cadac aprons for the 12 finalists.

PricewaterhouseCoopers SA: R7 000. Winner receives R2 000, second R1 000 and third receives R500. Gift pack to each of the 12 finalists and an audited final.

Kh marketing: R6 000. A gift pack of R500 for each of the 12 finalists.

Vodacom: R4 900. A cellphone and air?time to the winner to the value of R2 500 and also hampers and airtime to the 12 finalists to the value of R2 400.

Atlantis Guest House: R3 240. Winner gets 3 nights’ accommodation for 2 in Atlantis Guest House in The Pearl Room with breakfast. Value: R1 710. Second: 3 nights’ accommodation for 2 in Atlantis Guest House in The Dolphin Room with breakfast. Value: R810. Third: 3 nights’ accommodation for 2 in Atlantis Guest House in The Mermaid Room with breakfast. Value: R720.

For the first time, a professional celebrity agency has joined to offer the following: for the winner and the first runner-up (subject to the signing of a contract) – a 1-year exclusivity contract with Redstar Talent. Redstar Talent will represent the artist, offer professional advice, negotiate and conclude all bookings and performance contracts and arrangements on their behalf, supply each with generic business cards and load a profile and photograph of each artist onto the Redstar Talent website with easy booking access at www.redstartalent.co.za. Note: Redstar Talent makes no guarantees of any kind that performance engagements will be secured and the co-operation of the artist must be obtained.

Abide by these rules

The Spontaan singing competition is only for soloists.

You must be 16 years or older on 1 July 2008 to enter.

At the regional competitions you must prepare any song of your choice, in any style, a cappella (without any backtrack or accompaniment). If you are chosen as one of the finalists in the regional competition, you will be given another chance to sing the same, or a different song, using backtracks or your own accompaniment. You must supply your backtracks and other equipment for the regional competition. Judges reserve the right not to choose a winner for a specific newspaper should a competent winner for that area not be available. Three independent judges will choose the top three winners at the final.

Entries are free and participants may only enter one audition at one newspaper. You must supply your own backtracks or accompaniment at the final. Sound will be supplied for you at the final.

Volksblad’s community newspapers will pay for each regional finalist’s transport to and accommodation in Bloemfontein.
