FORUM: Travel by train to MotoGP
EXCITING news for fans, supporters, family and friends up north is that there will be a luxury train and buses from Pretoria to ferry commuters to the Africa's Grand Prix in Welkom in April. The opening round of the World Motorcycle Grand Prix series will be staged at Phakisa Freeway from 16 to 18 April. A luxury train will depart from Pretoria Station on Friday afternoon at 12:00 and is scheduled to arrive back on Sunday evening at around midnight. The JB Tours train, capable of carrying 144 commuters, is equipped with exclusive first class coaches, "Botswana" cafeteria dining car, cash-bar and power truck. Passengers will be picked up on its route via Van Riebeeck Park (at Kempton Park), Germiston, Vereeniging and will arrive at the Welkom Station the same day at 16:00. On arrival Friday afternoon, the passengers will be served supper on the train at their own cost and will be ferried with shuttle buses to the Castle Street Festival. On Saturday and Sunday a train will depart every morning from Welkom to Phakisa, where breakfast will be served. The train will return to Welkom after the races. The total tour package costs R799 per person including transport, shuttle busses, dining car with take away bar, tuck-shop, a 4 bed compartment or 2 bed coupe, two breakfasts, two toilets per coach, and a hot shower in every coach. The package does not include tickets to the Grand Prix, which could be purchased at the gate or at Computicket outlets countrywide. There will also be two buses going to Phakisa Freeway for the MotoGP on 18 April. Buses will depart at 03:00 from the Pretoria Station via Midrand and the New Road Bridge to Johannesburg, arriving at Phakisa at 08:00. One bus is a 43-seater luxury bus with TV's, air conditioner, recliner seats, toilet, fridge, curtains and public address system. Breakfast and snacks are served on the bus. The package costs R399 per person. The other bus is a 60 seater semi-luxury bus with airconditioner, curtains and comfortable seats. The price is only R299 per person and packages exclude entry ticket to the Grand Prix.
