QWAQWA:Free State government shows improvement despite problems
Premier Beatrice Marshoff addressed a total of 2 500 middle and senior managers last Tuesday in Bloemfontein and shared with them positive developments in the province. The focus was on the Mid-Term Review of the 2004-2009 period and the strategic programmes towards the second half of the term of office. Marshoff’s focus scope was on the following developments:. The reduction of unemployment rate from 34% in 2004 to 26,5% in 2007, making the Free State the province with the third lowest unemployment rate. The economic growth rate of -2% in 2004 to 4,2% in 2007;. The positive developments regarding the 2010 preparations and. Improved service delivery for especially the poor and rural people. Mr Teboho Sikisi, premier’s spokesperson, expressed satisfaction with progress made and also thanked all the provincial government officials for “their hard work and dedication”. He further implored them to redouble their efforts in taking forward the strategic programmes of the provincial government. In return the officials also thanked the premier for her leadership and pledged to embrace the Batho Pele principles and support the premier and the executive council. The successful pursuit was amongst the following:. The implementation of the five year strategic agenda for Local Government;. The implementation of Natio-nal Youth Service Program-mes in all government departments and municipalities;. Effective coordination and implementation of the ASGISA and JIPSA initiative;. The successful reduction of crime and corruption;. Sustainable economic development and job creation; . Continuous improvement of the provision of quality services in all sectors.
