NOORDKAAP:‘No limits if you have a dream’
Barkly West.– A total of 120 learners from Mo-salakae Primary, Barkly West Higher Primary, Barkly West Primary, Barkly West High School, Vaalrivier High School and Boretsese High School, as well as schools from Gong Gong and Longlands, received school uniforms during an event held at the Thabisho Drop-In Centre in Barkly West. Celine Morolong, spokes?person for Mr Goolam Akharwaray, Northern Cape MEC for Social Services and Population Development, said in a statement that learners had received a school uniform consisting of a pair of pants and a shirt for boys and a skirt and a shirt for girls as well as school shoes and school jerseys. The clothing is valued at R30 000 and forms part of Thabisho Drop-In Centre’s food and clothing bank initiative. The children were identified as the most vulnerable because their parents could not afford to buy them school uniforms. The centre was funded by the Department of Social Services and Population Development at a cost of R570 000 during the last financial year. Speaking to children at the event, Akharwaray said that their circumstances should not define their future. “Education is the key to a brighter future, remember that tall trees grow from small seeds, all big ideas from small beginnings so there are no limits if you have a dream.”
