Community and police help neighbours
The police recently launched a project in Thabong that focused on Know your neighbour. The Thabong Partnership Policing Unit, Correctional Services, Community Policing Forum and community volunteers formed part of this initiative. The houses of owners was painted, examples on how to mark your property was showed and pamphlets about housebreaking was distributed. Capt. Neo Mokgantsho says the purpose of the project was to lessen the struggle on emergency services, because they find it difficult to locate an address when attending to community calls. “Emergency personnel such as the police and ambulances are delayed, because they have to search for house numbers. This causes service delivery to be slow. If properties are marked properly, then it makes our jobs easier.” The paint, equipment and food was sponsored by Dulux, Eimpa Paints, Goldline Signs, Lerato Cash Store and Straight Supermarket. These business?es are situated in Welkom and Thabong. One of the house owners was very grateful to the role players for their generous gesture. “I am so happy as I did not expect this to happen. I thank all parties involved for their work. It shows that they care for their people,” said Ms Ntswaki Makhetha.
