In the same way, the owner of Oaklands Polo and Country Club in Van Reenen, Jamie Bruce, has achieved the dream of a lifetime by converting an acre of barren, swampy pasture into a polo field in a stupendously beautiful setting.

And just as the voice predicted, polo players from around the world descended on Oaklands recently to inaugurate the facility amidst a cacophony of celebrations .The festivities commenced on Friday, 31 October, with an 8 goal field polo tournament consisting of four teams competing for the newly commissioned Fuimus Cup. After a sumptuous lunch, action moved to the polo arena where two teams of junior players staged an exhibition match as a prelude to the first of three international test matches between South Africa and England. The action continued unabated for the next two days with Natal-based Otto’s Bluff scooping the Fuimus Cup and England running out 2-1 winners of the test series.

Off the field/arena, the action was equally intense with an Indian Summer party at the club on Friday night and the popping of champagne corks to celebrate this fabulous new polo facility on Saturday at sundown.
