Despite the headlines that shocked many South Africans, those who have a sense of humor turned tragedy into memes. Here are the funniest memes for 2016

2016 was an eventful year in the news but with every challenge that the world faced, there are those who found humour in very serious situations.

Here are some of the funniest memes that were made to poke fun at news headliners.

1. During Donald Trump’s race up to the American elections, there were plenty of memes making fun of his hair style, even after he was elected president of USA. Trump 2. President Jacob Zuma has many memes poking fun at his R250 million non-security upgrades to his home in Nkandla. Eskom CEO, Brian Molefe was not exempt after the Public Protector State Capture Report exposed his relationship with the Guptas and he broke down at a media briefing. A documentary revealed that State Security Minister, David Mahlobo, could close ties to a rhino horn trafficker in the country.

3. Ghanaian boy, Jake, has appeared in many memes. The original picture by artist, Solomon Adufah was part of an exhibition to raise funds for under privileged children. Here Jake is seated in parliament next to President Jacob Zuma in the original image he is sitting in class writing.

4. Speaker of Parliament, Baleka Mbete, started to appear in memes amid complaints that she is biased towards members of the ANC during sittings in parliament. She often refused to recognise members of parliament from other political parties whenever there was a heated debate.
