37-year-old man convicted of rape and robbery has been sentenced to 30-years

A 37-year-old man convicted of rape and robbery has been sentenced to 30-years of imprisonment by the Empangeni Regional Court today.

In December 2011, Vusi Jele attacked a 27-year-old woman at her residence.

He entered the bedroom of a 27-year-old woman, in Mandlanzini, in Empangeni and threatened her with a screwdriver, demanded her cellphones and raped her.

Jele was sentenced to 20 years for rape and ten years for robbery.

The Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni said the sentence handed down to the accused will send a strong and clear message to other rapists that the police will arrest and prosecute them without any delay.
