5FM has been nominated for a Worldwide Radio Summit Award.

The station is one of five radio stations put forward in the Influential International Station category at the prestigious international awards ceremony, which is being held in Hollywood at the end of April.

As the only South African radio station to be nominated, 5FM stands alongside the cream of the crop of radio from around the world BBC Radio 1 (UK), NRJ (France), Triple J (Australia) and Xfm (UK) for the honour of the most influential international radio station.

5FM’s station manager Aisha Mohamed is ecstatic about the nomination and being recognised on a global scale. “We’re highly honoured to be nominated in the Influential International Radio Station category, especially alongside such globally powerful radio players. It is a feather in our cap simply to be nominated,” he said.

5FM was nominated by readers of industry leader website AllAccess.com, the world’s largest online, news, music and information resource for radio worldwide.

Members of the AllAccess.com community, who recognised the station as a music and entertainment authority, voted and the top 5 nominees in each category were recently announced.

Nominations across the 33 categories opened on 16 January and closed just over a month later on 19 February.

Explains AllAccess.com’s Joel Denver, “5FM was selected by its peers. The top 5 nominees in the 33 categories were then open for final voting from 20 February until 18 March.”
