Do you want to make your little one a special gift that they can use all the time? Knit this cosy blanket and embroider their name and date of birth on the inside as a loving touch.

Materials

Three 100 g balls of Elle Pure Gold DK yarn in the colour of your choice. Motifs of your choice to use for decoration. One pair 4 mm knitting needles.

Measurements

About 61 cm x 72 cm. (Instructions are given for one size only.)

Tension

Save time, take time, check tension. 22 sts and 30 rows = 10 cm over stocking stitch using 4 mm needles. For the best results it’s essential to obtain the correct tension. If there are too few stitches on your test swatch use thinner needles; if there are too many stitches use thicker needles.

Abbreviations

cont = continue; foll(s) = follow(s)ing; k = knit; p = purl; patt(s) = pattern(s); rep = repeat; RSF = right side facing; st(s) = stitch(es); st st = stocking stitch.

Baby blanket

Using 4 mm needles cast on 134 sts and k 6 rows. Cont as folls: 1st row: RSF, k. 2nd row: K4, *p22, k4, rep from * to end. 3rd to 30th row: Rep 1st and 2nd row 14 times. 31st to 36th row: K. Rows 1-36 set the patt. Rep these 36 rows 5 times more. Cast off all sts.

To finish

Block blanket to measurement, cover with a damp cloth and allow to dry. Decorate as desired.

Hop, bunny, hop

Decorate this cream blanket to your heart’s content – but avoid small, hard items such as buttons that could come loose and be swallowed by a child. We cut out small rabbits from felt and embroidered them on the blanket with turquoise thread. Other easy patterns are hearts and stars. You could also embroider a simple design such as a house in the blocks. For variety use a mix of pastel and primary colours.
