Actress Itumeleng Bokaba shares her experience of playing an HIV-positive teen and how it affected her.

For some young people in Mzansi, love no longer consists of roses and chocolates, and young girls’ dreams of romance have been replaced with something much more calculated.

Many hunt for the older man – the sugar daddy who promises them the earth but ultimately lets them down.

This harsh reality of modern day affairs of the heart is portrayed by the character of the naïve Mampho on the popular soapie Rhythm City.

She gave her all to her older man and all she got in return was heartache and HIV.

The controversial storyline created quite a buzz – perhaps because it was too close to the bone for many young girls.

Real life and what we see on our screens are not always worlds apart.

Today we meet up with the person behind Mampho’s character, the bubbly Itumeleng Bokaba, at our studios in Joburg.
