Accolades for Madonsela and Gordhan

Former Public Protector, Thuli Madonsela, won a prestigious award at the 2016 Mahatma Ghandi Awards held in Durban City Hall on Monday night – a week after her State Capture report was released.

Madonsela was honoured for her contribution to society as the country’s Public Protector, a post that she held for seven years. During her term she fearlessly took on several high profile individuals, including President Jacob Zuma.

This is by no means her first award: in 2014 Madonsela also won the ANN7 South African of the Year Award and featured on the Time 100 – Time magazine's annual list of the 100 most influential people in the world.

Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan also won a Mahatma Ghandi Satyagraha Award on Monday for his contribution to promoting integrity; this despite the National Prosecuting Authority’s attempts to tarnish his image by charging him with fraud and theft – an investigation that was subsequently dropped last week.
