A third man handed himself over at the Dobsonville police station after the local stadium in Soweto was vandalised on September 30, police said on Monday.

"A man, we believe is the main suspect, handed himself over to police at 8.30am on Monday morning," Warrant Officer Kay Makhubela said.

"He will appear with the other two men already arrested in the Protea Magistrate's Court on Tuesday. They face a number of charges, including malicious damage to property and vandalism."

Makhubela said police expected more arrests soon, as they were using closed circuit television footage to identify those involved.

On September 30, soccer supporters broke a fence and vandalised the stadium when Moroka Swallows beat Sundowns.

Sundowns supporters tore down the stadium's security fence and stormed the pitch.

The estimated value of damage to the stadium was R27,000, Makhubela said.
