Anglo American Platinum miners will end their illegal strike from Wednesday night, Reuters reports.

“The strike was only for last night,” Amplats labour leader Evans Ramokga was quoted as saying.

On Tuesday night workers refused to go underground following the company's announcement that about 14,000 jobs could be lost by its plan to stop production at four of its shafts in Rustenburg.

The company said the Khomanani, Thembelani and Tumela mines were affected by the "illegal stoppage".

Operations at other mines in Rustenburg and those in the north of Pilanesburg were normal, company spokeswoman Mpumi Sithole said.
