Actor and comedian Anthony Anderson has been announced as the host of this weekend's MAMAs but there has been some backlash for the announcement

Actor and comedian Anthony Anderson has been announced as the host of the MTV Africa Music Awards which will be taking place in Durban this weekend.

This will be the first time Anderson has visited Durban and he seems super excited about it.

"I'm so looking forward to my first trip to Durban and KwaZulu-Natal and honoured to be hosting MAMA 2015 on Nelson Mandela's birthday - it's going to be awesome!" said Anderson in a released statement.

MTV Base broke the news on their twitter page and it seems like its all system go for Anthony's debut.

This gig comes off the back of the comedian co-hosting the BET awards a few weeks ago.

Last year, Marlon Wayans was the host and many were not happy about his hosting skills, we're hoping it will be different for Anderson.

So far, there hasn't been a great reception regarding the news but MTV Base presenter Sizwe Dlomo and other twitter users have been defending Anderson. Check some of the tweets below:
